In addition to working against external parasites, the collar is also effective against ticks as well as chewing lice. The active ingredient is Imidacloprid which is very safe around dogs and cats but can be lethal to certain mammals such as rabbits, squirrels and other small animals.

Seresto has been proven to kill 100% of fleas within 12 hours of use and Lures ticks for up to 4 weeks. It also breaks the reproduction cycle which leads to faster results in regards to reducing the number of flea infestations on dogs. Like all products, it is important to read the manufacturer’s instructions and make sure you’re using Seresto correctly for optimal effectiveness.
8 Months of Protection
It is important to note that the 8 months of protection provided by the collar are based on dogs who spend most of their time outside in an area where ticks are prevalent. During this period, there will be no need to use additional flea or tick prevention products with Seresto.
**UPDATE: A new formula has been released in 2011 which claims to offer 12 months of protection instead of 8. This is due to a change in the active ingredient (now Imidacloprid + Moxidectin).
Alternatives to Seresto
Some pet owners prefer to give them tablets for flea and tick control such as Simparica for dogs. We prefer to use a spot on such as Frontline for our rescue Patterdale.
