Our dogs are part of the family, we wouldn’t leave out any other member of the family when buying Christmas presents.  So, why would anyone leave out their dog?  Even super tough Police dogs get Christmas presents to open!

That is the thing to remember; for most dogs it is the unwrapping that is the most fun.  Wrapping the dog’s gift in lots of scrunchy paper and once they’ve got a taste for opening presents they’ll love it forever!  Dog’s in rescue love receiving presents that are wrapped up, it makes them feel loved.

Some pet parents open the dog’s present for them, this may be required to begin with, but encouraging them to help, should lead to them learning the idea and loving it in future years.  If your gift to your dog is a snazzy new bed, tracker or clothing, then include a tasty treat in with the gift to reward them for their unwrapping effort.

Toys, chews, Christmas stockings, bones, beds and coats are all great ideas of great dog Christmas presents.  Terriers especially love tug toys or something they can destroy!  Or what about a dog camera with treat dispenser or a fitness tracker?

GPS Tracker

A GPS Tracker is a great gift idea, especially if you have a lot of land or regularly walk your dog/s loose in wide-open spaces.  This is a gift that will need a treat packed with it though as your dog won’t understand what a great gift a tracker is!

They need a subscription, the one below starts at £3.50 per month.

Ideal as a thoughtful gift for someone else’s dog.

Dog Twister Interactive Treat Puzzle – Ninna Ottosson by Outward Hound

This Dog Twister is an excellent interactive dog toy that allows your dog to use his paws, nose and mind to access his treats. It’s a level 3 dog puzzle by Nina Ottosson. Simply fill the slots with treats and your dog has to work out how to access them – pull the lever and spin the panels.  Some dogs get this really quick and found it easy, others find it a challenge each time.

NiceButy Dog Plush Christmas Toys

We love this NiceButy snowman, he’s so cute!  With the different textiles including corduroy to help clean teeth your dog will love it too!  It’s not designed for aggressive chewers (Patterdales may destroy this in seconds!) and be warned – it does have a squeak.

The range also includes a penguin and a Father Christmas too.

Your pooch would look so stylish with this winter themed collar and lead set.  The red looks so good against black coated Patterdale’s too.

Furbo Dog Camera

Is this the ultimate in dog cameras?  We think it might be!

The Furbo Dog Camera features 1080p Full HD camera and night vision, 160o wide angle, zoom.

Two-way chat facility means you can talk to your dog from it and also see what he’s barking at from the push notification option to your mobile.

You can remotely dispense treats when your dog is being good.

The Furbo is moveable and has a slight downward tilt on the camera, so it can be placed on a shelf out of reach.

Okay, granted this is a more expensive gift, at the time of writing it was on offer at £189, but it’s a great option for when you cannot be home as much as you’d like.

Pit Pat Activity and Fitness Monitor

Designed with vets, the Pitpat fitness monitor is small and lightweight, fully waterproof and secures easily to your dogs collar.

Easy and quick to set up with your phone, there is no subscription and you set your dogs profile and then have fun monitoring fitness.
