We know that dogs love to chew.  Most dogs also love their food.  A Kong toy stuffed with delicious morsels is a win-win for your dog!   Kong fillable toys have become the staple for enriching the lives of dogs by satisfying their natural instinct to chew, which in turn is good for their jaw and dental health and psychological health as it calms them down.

Why Kong Easy Treat

Kong Easy Treat is a range of specially flavoured fillers for Kong toys, packaged in a carefully designed dispenser tube to ensure ease and convenience when stuffing the fillable toys.  Kong describes it as ‘providing an easy no-mess solution for pet parents’ being highly-digestible and trans-fat free’ (Kong accessed April 2021).  An advantage of Easy Treat is that it doesn’t need to be refrigerated.  The treat paste can be used with any of the fillable Kong toys and works really well on the Licky Mats too.

Kong toys are a great way to alleviate boredom and provide mental stimulation to puppies and adult dogs.  A Kong, especially when filled, helps prevent chewing of items you don’t want chewed, helps with teething, can prevent unwanted digging and barking and having an interesting activity helps ease separation anxiety and crate training.

What Are Kong East Treats

Kong Easy Treats are specially formulated dog treats for filling the Kong range of fillable toys.  They can be the only item added.  Kong recommends putting in some peanut butter or tempting kibble and then sealing with the treat paste.

The main ingredients of a long list are milk, water, soybean oil, whey, preservative and whey protein concentrate.  The flavour or artificial flavouring of the variety is the last and, therefore, smallest ingredient.  But these are treats, so read on to see what dogs think of them!

Especially during hot weather, but also at other times, you can freeze the stuffed Kong to make a cooling treat that lasts longer.

The weight varies across the range from 225 to 295 grams per tube.

Let’s take a look at some of the flavours:

Peanut Butter

Looking at the ingredients, it is disappointing that the peanut butter version doesn’t contain any peanut butter at all!  Somehow, I expected a peanut butter flavoured paste to contain actual peanut butter.

What do the dogs think of the Peanut Butter version:

Feedback is generally good that dogs do love it.  Although it’s probably more cost-effective to do as I do and buy a jar of peanut butter with no added salt as a healthier option for your dog.

Cheese

If your dog loves cheese, they’ll love this.  It’s a convenient and cleaner way to fill a Kong for cheese-loving dogs than trying to get cheese spread out of a tub in there.

Liver

The liver is my favourite version, simply because it does actually contain concentrated dried chicken liver.  My dog goes mad for it, so I think it’s his favourite too!  An advantage of this over other similar liver treats is that there is no horrid smell that can accompany some liver items.

Dispensing

That the treat pastes are sold in a carefully designed tube to ease filling Kong toys is one of the main reasons for purchasing this product. Yet, whilst some people find it easy to use, others leave feedback about how difficult they find the dispenser to use.

A Couple of Tips

Although the pastes are designed as a treat, if you use a lot or especially if your dog is overweight, it’s important to count the paste as part of his/her daily diet and adjust their main meals accordingly.

As well as filling the Kong with paste alone, the paste works well when mixed with kibble, pieces of carrot or cheese or other treats; simply add a few other items in first before adding the treat paste.  Your dog will have to work harder to get the other things out.

Our Verdict

Whatever we think, dogs love the flavour and adding Kong Easy Treat paste to their Kong’s certainly improves their enjoyment and is a helpful aid for prevention of what we consider antisocial behaviour.
