Liver cake for dogs is a tasty and healthy treat for your pooch and also relatively easy to make. Preparation time is around 15-20 minutes and it takes approximately 40 minutes to bake in the oven.

We first found out about liver cake for dogs when we went to the Dog Barn in St Helen’s. There were so many dogs around that Blake was hyper stimulated and we couldn’t get him to do the agility because there was no way to get his focus with everything that was going on around him. Then the trainer came along with some liver cake!!! His attention was straight on it…mmmmmm, mmmmmm! ‘Wow, what have you got?!?!’ we asked!!! We bought some to take home with us but he loved it that much we decided to make our own!

Now I must warn you that the smushed liver is a bit smelly and disgusting, but it’s worth it to see his face when his liver cake comes out of the oven!

And when it comes out!

This will make a lot of liver cake and so remember not to give your dog too much, and balance out his food and treats so that he’s not overeating! It lasts about 4 days in the fridge. The great news is that it is freezable and so you can keep one piece out for training that week and then freeze the rest, and take it out to defrost ready for when he needs it next.

Cut it up into small cubes and use for training. They totally love these treats and you can get them to do lots of obedience and agility training. They are also brilliant for teaching recall because they love it so much they will come back for a piece!
