For centuries many animals have been selectively bred so that they can evolve to become the best version of themselves. Dogs are also continuously cross-bred so they can suit the needs of their human owners.

Today we will explore the cross between a Patterdale Terrier and a Springer Spaniel. Both combined are known as a Springerdale. Let’s dive into their personality and if they are the right breed for you.

Introduction To A Patterdale Terrier And Springer Spaniel

Patterdale Terriers are mostly used as hunting dogs and they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club or the FCI. They weigh 5.5kgs on an average and have an average height of 13.5 inches.

The Patterdale Terrier is also extremely easy to groom and they shed moderately. Their temperament is friendly, intellectual, energetic, bold, and confident. However, they are extremely difficult to train.

They are also averse to noisy households, irregular routines, and too many guest visits in a household. Although, they are extremely loyal and affectionate towards their human companions.

On the other hand, Springer Spaniels are characterized as gun dogs and recognized both by the AKC and FCI. Their average weight is between 20 – 22kgs and their average height is 20 inches.

They require a lot of grooming and shed moderately. Their temperament is also energetic, playful, affectionate, and cheerful. They are extremely smart and this makes them easy to train. This breed can also adapt to any environment easily.

Springerdale Traits And Appearance

The Patterdale and Springer Spaniel cross is a good one. It combines the adaptability of the Springer Spaniel and the alertness of the Patterdale Terrier. This makes it a great dog to have anywhere and everywhere.

Its face looks more like a Patterdale Terrier. However, the ears resemble more of the Springer Spaniel. This makes it an attractive and beautiful dog that people love to have.

The Springerdale has an energetic temperament that is always on high alert. Apart from that, they are socially alert, affectionate, highly intelligent, and confident.

However, since Patterdales are hard to train and Springer Spaniels are easy to train, their cross becomes fairly easy to train. So, you will not have difficulty in that.

The Springerdale is also playful, obedient, intelligent, and fairly adaptable to new situations and places. However, it is better that you don’t keep this breed in your apartment as it won’t like it.

Should You Get A Springerdale?

If you have some open space in your home then yes you should get this breed. One thing to keep in mind is that it needs a lot of exercise so having an open house with a yard or garden is the perfect place to raise this breed.

Their temperament is also easy to handle so you will not have any problems in that aspect. If you want a friendly, intelligent, and obedient dog then a springerdale is the perfect choice for you.

However, do research on the breeder before you decide to buy so that you can make an informed decision.
